Hot air edge bander equipment
The simplest of the edge banders is the hot air edge bander. This woodworking machine processes hot glue-coated thin edges up to 1mm thick with the adhesive being melted by a hot air gun. This machine is suitable for operations where it is needed for only a few hours a month. Other thicker edging material cannot be applied using this equipment.
Entry-level machines
Operations requiring an edge banding machine for less than 5 hours on average per week and which do not need to process 3mm-thick PVC should opt for entry-level machines with a standard frequency motor and joining unit.
Semi-professional machines
Operations hoping to use the machinery for 4 hours on average per day are what would be classed as semi-professional edge banding users. In this class, powerful high-frequency motors would be a good choice. For many years, machines were primarily made with a belt drive and standard frequency motors.
But the market has since changed and manufacturers are now opting for high-frequency motors. In the case of used machinery, however, there are still many affordable versions featuring standard frequency motors. Most edge banders in this class are capable of processing PVC edging material at 3 mm thick. It is important to ensure the machines are fitted with suitable profile cutting blades to smooth the edges. Corner rounding units are rare to find in this machinery class but are convenient for rounding off the front and back edges.
Machinery for industrial production
Machines of this class can be programmed to automatically adhere and rework almost every type of edging material. Automatic edge banding machines are constructed for high-performance production and can be used in multi-shift operation at high working speeds.
