Stable shelving racks for use in workshops and warehouses

Shelving used in industrial production

Shelving is a classic category of furniture used in workshops and warehouses. In a warehouse, it is mainly used for sorting and providing the possibility to store components on various levels. Shelving units do not differ very much in regards to their construction. Side elements are available either as a basic component or additional attachments. Crossbeams are then screwed in between the two side elements. In order to ensure that the shelves are stable, diagonal beams are

This means that the horizontal struts of the side elements are either perforated or slotted to ensure that they can be spaced as required. Special, attachable brackets are used to hold the shelf in place.

The shelves themselves are made out of folded sheet metal, or sometimes also out of wood. The folded sheet metal usually contains extra support underneath the storage area, in order to increase its storage capacity. This also provides the possibility to manufacture wide shelving units. A further important criterion is the loading capacity of the shelf. Shelving units are generally 2 metres in height. For special uses, shelves can also be placed on top of one another. These multi-tier shelving units are used in conjunction with a separate controlling unit. The operator can manually use this piece of equipment to stock shelves at great heights. All kinds of workshop and heavy-duty shelves are used in industry. Heavy-duty shelves are built to be able to hold large loads and are therefore made out of steel profiles. The shelves are powder coated or galvanised, in order to protect them from corrosion.

Areas of application for shelving

Shelving can be applied in a variety of settings including warehouses, workshops, halls, storage units, libraries, retail, wholesale and other branches of industry. In industry, shelving is selected to fit the required loads, and storage units for standard parts are commonly used in manufacturing plants. This means that goods can be immediately sorted within the smallest amount of space. In order to be able to find the stored components, shelves are usually marked with signs. A systematic sorting system can be developed according to the desired criteria. Special accessories such as separating plates, or plastic or metal boxes, can be implemented. These are simply placed upon the shelf. To make sure that the goods cannot get pushed to the back, shelves contain extra edges or retaining strips horizontally along the back.
