HSC-Milling Machines
Modern high-speed milling machines from top brands
What is an "HSC-milling machine"?
An HSC-milling machine is a CNC-milling machine that operates with a particularly high cutting speed. HSC stands for "High Speed Cutting". HSC-milling machines are deployed for the mass production of high quality components such as aircraft framing elements. HSC-milling machines are somewhat more expensive than conventional CNC-automated milling machines, but offer significant advantages.

Advantages of the HSC-milling machine
The HSC-milling machine achieves a special effect through its high milling speed. Through the extremely high revolution speed of the cutting element, the frame is shaped before friction heats the material or the cutting tool. That means that during operation the workpiece and cutter both remain comparatively cool. Consequently, wear of the cutting element is reduced, and warming of the workpiece is avoided. Many products are therefore workable for the first time, particularly high-precision products made of thin-gauge light metals. Due to the high revolution speed, quality and precision of the cutting tool, additional re-working of the workpiece after shaping by the HSC-milling machine is no longer necessary.

Work with the HSC-milling machine
Working efficiently with the HSC-milling machine poses certain challenges. Special attention must be paid to safety features. The frames produced by the HSC-milling machine are not only small and very hot, but production is extremely fast. The speed can exceed the speed of a bullet, and therefore poses a significant risk of injury. The technically correct enclosure of the HSC-milling machine is essential. Equipping and servicing the HSC-milling machine is however not especially difficult, and could theoretically be undertaken by assistants. This would however require thorough instruction with regard to the dangers of operating the HSC-milling machine.
Efficiency of the HSC-milling machine
HSC-milling machines have significant advantages over conventional CNC-automated milling machines. The decision to acquire such a machine should nevertheless be considered carefully. Obstructed components, particularly the housing of the fulcrum shaft, are somewhat costlier than the obstruction of the same components in conventional CNC-milling machines. This results from the high strain placed on the housing by the extreme revolution speed. Maintenance and repair of the HSC-milling machine is therefore expensive. Often HSC-milling machines are so complexly constructed that their restorative maintenance requires the consultation of a specialised company or customer services. Nonetheless, the HSC-milling machine is an enrichment to any machine park, and if properly deployed can open completely new markets.
Suppliers of the HSC-milling machine
HSC-milling machines are specialised machines of the very highest manufacturing quality. Specialised producers of the machine are correspondingly rare. Established vendors of HSC-milling machines are HAUF, FOOKE, RÖDER and WISSNER.
