Double Column Presses
Hydraulic double column presses, drawing presses & press lines
Explanation of the term "double column press"
A double column press is used to reshape sheet-metal. With these presses, large quantities can be mass-produced. As single-user machines, presses were widely used throughout industry, but left out of the assembly line. Presently, presses are one of the typical machines found in the sheet-metal working sector. Because of its design, the double column press is continuously part of the product range of its producers.

What is produced by presses?
Workpieces are reshaped by presses. That means that deformations can be created in flat sheet metal without cutting through the material. This process is typically required during the fabrication of assembly products. Common end products of presses include ashtrays, flatware, shovels or lids. Double column presses are employed for especially thick, tough, or pressure resistant material. Its design is capable of generating high levels of pressure.

Functions of a press
A press consists of a pressing tool, a lifting mechanism, and a frame. In the double column press, the frame is H-shaped. The size of the press determines how much power can be exerted on the product. Depending on the strength of the material, and the circumference and depth of the contours to be pressed, various operations of the press are necessary. The simplest presses are manually operated with a lever. The strongest presses have a hydraulic pressing mechanism. Due to their double bracing, double column presses are especially stable.
Types of presses
The application of a press depends on its construction. There is a distinction between C-presses and O-presses. O-presses and double column presses are identical. On C-presses, the pressing mechanism and pressing tool are located on the back. This enables easy access to the tool, but limits the pressing power. C-presses are limited to around 4000kN. O-presses or double column presses are mounted to the left and right sides of the tool. Through the double mounting, significantly higher pressing power can be achieved. The press's symmetry has additional advantages of dimensional accuracy and high quality in the pressed product.
Working with a press
Presses have been responsible for countless accidents. Today, presses are permissible only with extensive safety features. This includes protective flaps, double release switches, and photoelectric barriers to prevent unintentional grasping of the lifting mechanism. While double column presses are often employed to achieve high-power pressing, aids such as machine jacks, lifting tables, or, when necessary, small cranes are sensible supplements. Double column presses are often hydraulically constructed while this form of power distribution generates especially high pressure.
Distributors of double column presses
Due to the prevalence and ubiquity of presses, countless producers specialize in this machine, with a correspondingly large selection. Recommendable suppliers are SCHOEN, HYDRAP, ABCO, LAUFFER, WANZKE, BUSSMANN, HYLATECHNIK and MÜLLER.
